Afzal Hussain

Doctoral Researcher | Analytical Chemist | KTP Associate

Biography

Afzal holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the National University, Bangladesh, and a Master’s in Analytical and Forensic Chemistry from the University of Hull, UK (2023). His master’s research focused on developing a spectroscopic method to detect polymorphic differences between branded and generic pharmaceuticals, strengthening his expertise in analytical and computational chemistry.

He previously worked at Reckitt Benckiser, Hull, gaining hands-on experience with a range of analytical and spectroscopic techniques. He later joined the University of Plymouth as an R&D Analytical Chemist (KTP Associate) on an Innovate UK-funded project, where he developed a novel strategy for quantifying cannabinoids (CBD) in cosmetics and food supplements.

He is currently a PhD researcher at the University of Bath, applying wastewater-based epidemiology and advanced mass spectrometry to study pharmaceutical contamination in the environment and its implications for One Health.
